Things are a little different and quirky at one of Belmore streets most recently opened Cafes 'Thyme for Coffee', these guys aren't afraid to mix your traditional Cafe brekky and lunch menu up a bit!
So step aside smashed avo.. Thyme have created a breakfast/brunch menu containing a whole new range of mouth watering assemblages of food groups in single dishes on top of your normal crowd pleasers.
In my most recent visit I treated myself to some toasted sourdough topped with avo, roasted and spiced pumpkin, feta, spinach, a poached egg and grilled local tomatoes garnished with fresh stalks of Thyme accompanied by a big delicious big mug of coffee of course! I was very tempted by the spiced ricotta with roasted vegetables on grilled sourdough. My partner had what I think every bloke sets their eyes on in a breakfast menu - the 'Big Brekky', or 'Big Thyme' as they call it. Although the make up of this dish is what you would normally see from most cafes big breakfasts with the likes of poached eggs, toast, bacon, sausages, grilled tomatoes, mushroom and baked beans.. the Big Thyme still impressed me as an absolute stand out meal in that majority of the ingredients they use are locally sourced and eggs are free range, breads are fresh from a local bakery and the baked beans... OMG.. the baked beans! they are house made and filled with secret spices that even baked bean haters would have to try because in my opinion they'd be enough to conform them!
Vegan options can often be hard to find, especially in a country town! Thyme have a number of vegetarian and vegan options on their menu to ensure nobody has to miss out on experiencing their cafe!
The other point of difference in this little family owned and run with love cafe; is that they have the widest range of flavoured hot drinks I've ever seen! If you're after a winter warmer to get you through the day and you're not a coffee lover, get in and try some of these intensely flavoured hot beverages. Flavours on offer are; Turmeric Latte (so Melbourne right now), chilli hot chocolate, White hot chocolate, Nutella hot chocolate, Spanish hot chocolate, Hazelnut hot chocolate, Fairy-floss hot chocolate as well as 8 other flavours of chai!
If you are however a coffee or mocaccino lover, there are also some flavoured latte variants for the coffee loving sweet tooth, some of the favourites are: Hazelnut, vanilla, caramel, and a concoction in itself is the Marie which includes a bunch of different chocolaty and sweet ingredients to hit the sweet spot!
Something I have always been a huge fan of is digging in to a huge platter overflowing with condiments of all tastes, textures and food groups that contrast with each other yet when shoved in your mouth all at once really complement one another becoming moreish to the point where you mix so many different ingredients together that you forget which assortment you even started with! especially after washing it down with a few wines, because honestly what is a platter without the appropriate wine? right?
Thyme have a more deli style section to their cafe where you can choose a number of dips (all gluten free some dairy free) and antipasto finger foods to create a share platter to either eat in and enjoy with friends in the BYO room across from the main cafe, otherwise you could opt to order one to take away with you to an event, you'll be sure to impress with one of these!
